I had a great evening on February 28, attending the Laramie County Fire Authority Volunteer Recognition Banquet at Little America.
It’s hard to fully capture what 19,000 volunteer hours really means. That’s time away from family, work, and personal commitments—all given freely to protect the people of Laramie County. That kind of service says a lot about the character of these men and women.
It was special to see volunteers recognized for 5, 10, and even 25 years of dedication. Fire Chief Jason Caughey did a wonderful job thanking not only the volunteers, but also the board members who help guide the organization.
What stood out most to me was the camaraderie in the room. These folks have stood shoulder to shoulder on some tough calls, and you can tell they trust each other like family. I also enjoyed reconnecting with a few old friends I worked alongside during my time as a deputy—it brought back a lot of great memories.
We are incredibly fortunate across all of Laramie County to have volunteers willing to answer the call at any hour. Our community is safer because of them.
Thank you to every volunteer, board member, family member, and supporter for your unwavering commitment to Laramie County. Your dedication truly makes a difference. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this wonderful celebration.
