This post is a follow-up to my February 16, 2024, post.
I spoke with one of the Hydrologists who worked on the original AMEC well study in 2014, and he believes an update is warranted. He told me that current groundwater data is available as the state mandates wells with high outputs, such as in agricultural applications, be fitted with devices to monitor the levels. This yearly data is compiled at the State Engineer's Office and could be plugged into the AMEC model to give a more accurate, up-to-date picture of groundwater levels in the original study areas. An updated study is warranted but will come with a cost to complete. However, grant opportunities that defer some of the costs may be available.
In addition, I learned the City of Cheyenne has compiled a very detailed groundwater study of the Belvoir Ranch area in western Laramie County and will present the data to the Cheyenne City Council and Commissioners in March. WSP E&I did a study using newer technology. It used ground penetrating radar to map the entire aquifer system, giving the City of Cheyenne a "hyper-accurate" look at groundwater resources in the study area.
As I learn more, I will pass it on to you.
