On Tuesday, August 5th, the Laramie County Board of Commissioners will vote on the revised Laramie County Land Use Regulations (LCLUR). The process of revising these regulations has taken over two years and is based on feedback from the community regarding the current version of the LCLUR.
Back in January, when the first public meeting was held to discuss the proposed updates and solicit feedback from the community, there was considerable pushback. Before the meeting, several community members had sent out flyers or posted inaccurate information on social media regarding the LCLUR. The County's Planning Director, Justin Arnold, addressed these misconceptions while also considering the valid concerns of those who spoke against the proposed changes. After several additional public meetings, as well as numerous other meetings held in the community that Director Arnold attended, he took all the feedback and revised the document.
Unfortunately, some members of the community also propagated the false narrative that the public meetings were merely a formality and that no feedback would be considered. This could not be further from the truth; a process is in place when changes like this are made to ensure that public feedback is taken into account, as well as to notify the public of the final proposed changes. Beyond the public meetings held, Director Arnold appeared on the radio numerous times, and notices were posted on the County website, County Facebook page, as well as other public media sources. Every effort was made to ensure the community had adequate time to review the proposed LCLUR. This issue was initially scheduled to be voted on weeks ago, but due to additional public input, it was postponed until the August 5th meeting.
It would be too cumbersome to detail all the erroneous information circulating on social media and various flyers, so I will post information supplied by Director Arnold that addresses these issues to my website. You will also find a link to an email from the Board of Commissioners through the Chairman, Commissioner Malm, in response to the emails received by the commissioners. Please click here to be directed to my website, where you can find additional information.
I urge everyone who is concerned about the land-use regulation vote to either attend our August 5th meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the Commissioner's Chambers on the 3rd floor of the Historic Courthouse, view it live at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87543777695#success or view it at your leisure as these meetings are recorded at https://www.laramiecountywy.gov/County-Government/Elected-Officials/County-Commissioners/Agenda-Minutes-Center. Please note that it takes a few days for the recorded videos to be uploaded to the County website.
