Ahead of the August 18 Primary, here’s a brief update on the proposed 6th Penny Specific Purpose Tax.
This is not a new tax—it continues an existing, voter-approved program that funds only capital projects, not day-to-day operations. This countywide effort includes projects in Cheyenne, Albin, Burns, Pine Bluffs, and throughout Laramie County.
The proposal includes about $170 million in projects that will address community needs: $73M to improve roads and water systems to strengthen infrastructure, $69M for public safety resources to help protect residents, and $28M for enhancements such as parks, making neighborhoods more vibrant and enjoyable for everyone.
In the coming months, both the County and the City will speak to various community groups and public gatherings to share more information about the 6th Penny proposal. I will also include more detailed information in my May newsletter.
I encourage everyone to stay informed, ask questions, and plan to participate in the August 18 Primary. Your vote is essential—please take an active role in shaping our community’s future by supporting projects that matter to you and your family.
