Wyoming Property Tax Exemptions 2027

Property tax exemption applications for 2027 are now open, and I want to help make sure our Laramie County neighbors know what may be available to them.

Several exemptions could make a real difference for local homeowners.

The Homeowner Exemption provides a 25% exemption on the first $1 million of a qualifying primary residence's fair market value. Generally, you must own and live in the home for at least eight months of the year. Applications for 2027 are being accepted through March 1, 2027.

The Long-Term Homeowner Exemption may be available if you or your spouse are at least 65 years old and have paid residential property taxes in Wyoming for at least 25 years. Those years do not have to be consecutive. This exemption provides a 50% exemption on the first $3 million of the qualifying primary residence's fair market value.

First-time applicants for the Long-Term Homeowner Exemption should contact the Laramie County Assessor. If you received the exemption last year, you can confirm you still qualify with the Assessor’s Office by March 1.

You cannot claim both the Homeowner Exemption and the Long-Term Homeowner Exemption on the same property.

Wyoming also provides property tax relief for qualifying veterans and surviving spouses. For most qualifying veterans, the exemption reduces assessed property value by $6,000 and may also apply to qualifying vehicle registration fees.

There is also an important change beginning in 2027 for veterans who are certified as permanently and totally 100% service-connected disabled.

Because veterans’ eligibility and benefits depend on individual circumstances, I encourage veterans and surviving spouses to contact the Laramie County Assessor to make sure they receive every benefit for which they qualify.

Please take a minute to share this information with your family, friends, and neighbors. You may know someone who qualifies but doesn’t know these exemptions are available.

Maybe it’s a parent or grandparent who has lived in Wyoming and paid property taxes here for decades. Maybe it’s a veteran down the road. Sometimes helping our community is as simple as sharing information with a neighbor who can use it.

For applications and additional information, visit the Wyoming Department of Revenue Property Tax Division,

https://ptd.wyo.gov/OWNEROCC/pages/home,  or contact the Laramie County Assessor’s Office at 307-633-4307.

Please help spread the word. I would much rather see someone ask whether they qualify than miss an exemption they’re entitled to.
