On January 15, the Laramie County planning department held a public meeting regarding updating the proposed land use regulations that are currently being considered. The meeting was in response to concerns raised by some members of the public who voiced their belief that the proposed changes were some form of land grab by the county.
Unfortunately, false information was spread throughout social media, which necessitated the County Planning Director, Justin Arnold, to post a response memo on the county website addressing each point with verifiable facts to counter the claims, some of which had no basis. The bottom line is the proposed changes to the land use regulations are part of a more extensive process that allows for community discussion before final review and implementation; it is not a land grab by the county.
Feedback from the community is part of the process to ensure that the final product encompasses all available and valid viewpoints. During the meeting, Justin outlined several additional changes to the proposed regulations, which came directly from members of the public, who offered their suggestions. Some of the suggestions related to home businesses and the hours of operation were proposed in the first draft of the regulations. The next public meeting will again be held at the Archer Event Center on January 22, starting at 5 PM.
