Albin Farm Show

hollingsheadforcom

On Wednesday, February 5, I attended the Albin Farm Show. The town Council invited all the Laramie County Commissioners to stop by during the event and visit with community members and businesses at booths in the Albin community center gymnasium.

As I had my 2-1/2-year-old granddaughter Sawyer with me that day, we made a road trip out of it and ended up having a blast. While I was visiting with the attendees and various vendors, Sawyer charmed everyone around her and came away with a bag full of coloring books, crayons, candy, Hot Wheels cars, and even a toy tractor.

The event seemed well attended, and the afternoon's highlight was the free pulled pork lunch provided by the Albin Sr Lunch Program and Golden Prairie Delights and sponsored by 21st Century Equipment, Legacy Coop, Pinnacle Bank and PVC.

It was a great opportunity to visit with community members. Several of them had questions about the proposed bill currently making its way through the state legislature, which would cut property taxes by 50%. The individuals I spoke to were deeply concerned about the negative impact this would have on the smaller communities within Laramie County.

I share their concerns, as the written bill does not provide backfill for the decrease in property taxes that go towards funding everything from public safety services, including fire and law enforcement, schools, roads, and things like libraries and Senior Citizen centers around the County. It's urgent that we all contact our state legislator and ask them to consider a more balanced approach to the property tax issue.
