Do you love trains? I sure do. My grandfather spent nearly 20 years as an engineer at the Union Pacific railroad in Cheyenne. I fondly remember meeting family members at the train station after they traveled across the country by rail to visit us. The Cheyenne Depot Museum is hosting Depot Days May 17-19 at 121 W. 15th St. and for anyone who loves trains or has fond memories of a simpler time when travel wasn’t so rushed, and one could enjoy the scenery passing by the windows at a slower pace, rumbling along the tracks on a passenger train. This event is for you. As I walked through the Cheyenne Depot Museum this afternoon, it was like stepping back in time. I would encourage everyone to swing by the depot this weekend and take advantage of what the event offers. From numerous model train displays featuring everything from old mining towns to vast mountain scenes, where the creators of these magnificent dioramas spent countless hours bringing their vision to life, to tours of the Union Pacific steam shop and found house. There’s something for everyone.
