On February 7, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Special Needs Ministry of the Tim Tebow Foundation Night to Shine event held at Cheyenne Hills Church. My home church, Meadowbrooke, has partnered with Cheyenne Hills for the past two years to hold this event, which recognizes individuals with special needs, for they are true blessings in God's eyes.
Individuals from 14 years of age and up were honored and treated as royalty, even receiving a crown or tiara during the event. Each of them was led down the red carpet, where their pictures were taken in front of paparazzi and adoring fans waving signs and banners. Then, they were led to the central area of the church, where they could enjoy music, dancing, a picture-taking booth with fun costumes and props, and as much Chick-fil-A food as they could eat. The impact of this event on the participants was truly inspiring, filling the room with hope and joy.
The smiles I witnessed throughout the evening not only consisted of those individuals with special needs but were also on the faces of everyone who helped put this event together. We experienced just as much joy and fulfillment as the participants did. I was paired up with one of the participants as their "buddy" for the evening, ensuring all their needs were met. It was more fulfilling than words can describe.
