On August 12, I had the privilege of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the new liquid CO₂ plant at the Dyno Nobel facility in Cheyenne. One of the things I find most impressive about Laramie County is the diversity of our economy. This diversification helps insulate us from the boom-and-bust cycles that many other Wyoming communities face.
The new CO₂ plant is a shining example of collaboration and forward-thinking innovation. Some time ago, Reliant Processing approached Dyno Nobel with a proposal for a partnership that would not only create new jobs but also make a meaningful contribution to environmental stewardship.
Dyno Nobel produces a wide range of chemical products for various industries. In doing so, they currently release approximately 185 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere each day—more than 133 million pounds annually. To put that in perspective, it would take over 2.8 million trees to absorb that amount of CO₂ from the air.
Thanks to the new carbon capture and processing facility, this CO₂ will be captured and transformed into liquid CO₂ and dry ice for use in the food, beverage, and industrial gas markets. According to Lars Story, Senior Decarbonization Manager at Dyno Nobel, repurposing CO₂ emissions into valuable products for local industries exemplifies the company’s commitment to sustainability and its “Zero Harm” philosophy.
