The final rodeo on Sunday for this year's Daddy of 'Em All did not disappoint. It was the culmination of a week's worth of grit and determination displayed by the Cowboys and Cowgirls as the best of the best competed against each other for the opportunity to take home a CFD saddle, belt buckle, and prize purse. Not to mention the bragging rights of coming out on top at the world's largest outdoor rodeo.
My wife, Sue, and I were fortunate to have a front row seat behind the chutes, witnessing the battle of wills between competitor and animal in the Bull Riding, Bronc Riding, and Bulldogging events. This personal connection made the experience even more thrilling.
Barrel racing holds a special place in Sue's heart, as she was an active participant in the sport during her youth. The graceful coordination between rider and horse during this event evokes fond memories for her.
Laramie County's own Brody Cress claimed his fourth buckle at the Daddy of 'Em All, a CFD record scoring a 91 in the Saddle Bronc Event. This remarkable achievement by a local talent was awe-inspiring. Brody is also a graduate of Cheyenne East High School. It was amazing to see this young man testing skills against the best Cowboys from around the world and taking home the buckle. Great job, Brody!
Another interesting tidbit of information was that we sat beside a couple from Oklahoma City, OK, and they said they had attended CFD for six years, bringing along a couple of their customers with them. What a remarkable story. They said they thoroughly enjoy CFD and go home exhausted but happy.
Until next year!
