On Saturday, February 1st, I had the incredible opportunity to explore the Cheyenne Animal Shelter alongside several members of the Cheyenne City Council and other local stakeholders.

Our knowledgeable guide for the day was Britney Tennant, the Chief Executive Officer of the Animal Shelter. During our visit, we not only toured the facility but also learned about the array of services it offers to the community.

These services encompass the managed intake of stray and surrendered pets, ranging from fish and birds to dogs, cats, small mammals, and even some farm animals. The shelter provides comprehensive animal care both within its walls and threw off-site foster programs.

Additionally, they focus on customer care, assisting with pet reunifications, offering resources for pet relinquishment, and ensuring that pet adoption services are of the highest quality. Their outcome management covers everything from adoptions and transfers to end-of-life care.

The shelter also runs an extensive outreach education program that includes recruiting and engaging volunteers, hosting critter camps, providing corporate team-building opportunities, and promoting marketing and advocacy efforts. Their animal and community health initiatives offer a free pet food and supply pantry, safety-net sheltering and foster care, public spay/neuter services, vaccination clinics, and end-of-life support.

As a family, we have benefitted greatly from the services provided by the animal shelter over the years. Many of our beloved furry family members have come into our lives thanks to the compassionate work of this organization.

One of the key insights I gained during my visit was a better appreciation for the shelter's role in the community. I learned that they offer free boarding for animals whose owners are hospitalized and are developing post-adoption support services to help keep pets in their forever homes, thereby reducing the number of returns.

The shelter aims to be a supportive link between residents and the animals that enrich our lives daily. Through their educational and veterinary programs, they enable pet owners to care for their companions in a loving and responsible way.

I firmly believe that a truly healthy community cares not only for its residents but also for its animal population. The Cheyenne Animal Shelter dedicates itself daily to fulfilling this mission.

If you're in search of a furry friend, I highly encourage you to visit the wonderful staff at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter and see if one of the animals in their care could be a perfect addition to your family, providing them with a loving forever home.  cheyenneanimalshelter.org #cheyenneanimalshelter
