On November 17, Laramie County School District #1 held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the South High School Trades Academy. This program will expose students to in-demand fields such as plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, safety training, data center maintenance, manufacturing, nuclear energy, fiber optics, heavy machinery, CDL training, critical environment operations, construction, and more.
Cheyenne and Laramie County are growing, and programs like this will help ensure that young people entering the workforce for the first time have the skills needed to succeed in an ever-changing environment. Information shared at the event highlighted that the Trades Academy will provide industry and business partners from across the community with access to opportunities and programming designed to encourage students to enter the workforce. Partners are invited into the schools to co-teach skills, host events, speak with parents, and explain their industries. They will mentor, advise, and recruit students to provide excellent career opportunities for LCSD1 students.
It is an exciting time to be a high school student. This program not only prepares young people for future success but also has the potential to keep them rooted in the community—eventually raising the next generation here. Strong career opportunities are essential to ensuring Laramie County continues to build an environment where multi-generational families can proudly call this home.
